Snow Snake Races Cancelled Due to Frigid Weather

The Snow Snake event at the Edsel Ford Barn in Highland State Recreation Area has been cancelled for this weekend due to unsafe low temperatures and extreme wind chills. From Jay Fitzgerald's Blog on The Patch Website:  "Biologists performing routine winter snow snake surveys found a snow snake near the Edsel Ford Barn at Haven Hill in the Highland State Recreation Area that appeared to be frozen and totally inanimate. Herpetologists believe it was in some sort of "deep freeze hibernation state". And with concern that human participants might also be frozen solid due to frigid temperatures this coming weekend, they suggested that the Snow Snake race event at the Edsel Ford Barn be cancelled for this Sunday and rescheduled for a later date. Head snow snake wrangler Dick Russell from the Chief Pontiac Trail Activities Committee of the Boy Scouts has made arrangements for the event to be rescheduled for Sunday, February 9th."
