HAVEN HILL NATIVES – THE PEOPLE, THE PLANTS, THE NATIONAL NATURAL LANDMARK

Event on Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Presented by Larry Falardeau and Jay Fitzgerald from The Friends of Highland Recreation Area

Come learn about the ecological and historical gem in our own back yards, Highland State Recreation Area! Larry and Jay will focus on Haven Hill’s unique natural and cultural history and present day efforts by The Friends of Highland Recreation Area to steward the historic Edsel and Eleanor Ford Family Estate into the future. Of special interest will be the role of Genevieve Gillette, the Mother of Michigan’s State Park System and Natural Areas Program.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend this free North Oakland Wild Ones event. Donations are always welcome to help bring future educational opportunities! A printable flyer is available for distribution here. Doors open at 7, and the presentation starts at 7:30.

The Friends of Highland Recreation Area (FOHRA) volunteer organization was established in 2007, and is a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt non-profit organization operating under lease agreement with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Within one of the most picturesque, fascinating, and historically significant state parks in southeast lower Michigan, our goal is to combine the former Haven Hill estate history with Highland Recreation Area’s existing amenities, wilderness, and recreation.
