Redbud Reveal and Antiques and Collectibles Sale

The Friends of Highland Recreation Area are once again proud to announce the “Redbud Reveal”, a season-opening event at Highland State Recreation Area in Highland/White Lake, Michigan.

To celebrate the arrival of the 2016 spring and summer season, the Reveal will be held from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 14 (rain date Sunday, May 15). Visitors are encouraged to come and see the beautiful and historic Haven Hill section of the Highland State Recreation Area which includes the Haven Hill Gate House, the Edsel Ford Barn, the picturesque Carriage House and the Haven Hill Lodge footprint high upon Haven Hill.  Light refreshments will be served on the lawn around Edsel and Eleanor Fords’ wonderful former estate entrance. Come on out and join area residents to see if the redbuds are in bloom at Haven Hill!

Come on out and join area residents to see if the redbuds are in bloom at Haven Hill!

2016 Antiques and Collectibles Sale
A selection of collectible items for you and your home will be presented at the Edsel Ford Barn within Edsel and Eleanor Ford’s former Haven Hill Estate at Highland State Recreation Area. The historic barn is undergoing renovation by the park’s Friends Group, and is located in the Recreation Area between Duck Lake and Bogie Lake Roads on the south side of the highway at 5200 Highland Road (M-59), White Lake. The Sale event will be held during the “Redbud Reveal” spring season-opening event on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 10 am until 4:00 pm. Once inside the park please follow the signs to the event sites and the Sale at the Barn. All proceeds from the sale of donated items benefit the Friends of Highland Recreation Area and their restoration efforts at the former Haven Hill Estate. Snow Snakes Emerging at Haven Hill Near Edsel Ford Barn!

They are returning! The annual Snow Snake event will occur at the Edsel Ford Barn on Sunday, January 31 between 1 and 4:00 pm. Come out and enjoy this modern interpretation of a native american winter sport. Snakes will be available for those not creating their own with the Scout Program. 

Sponsored by the Chief Pontiac Trail Activities Committee and supported by the Friends of Highland Recreation Area. Public welcome. 

Light refreshments and snacks for sale as a fundraiser. Donations to support the Friends group and their efforts at Haven Hill accepted graciously.

Saturday, August 23rd, at Haven Hill in Highland State Recreation Area

The Haven Hill Festival is a celebration of the amazing natural and historic resources of the Highland State Recreation Area and the former Edsel and Eleanor Ford Haven Hill Estate. This year’s free event will include activities for everyone of all ages. Vintage Model A Ford cars will be on display and an 1860’s Base Ball match will start at 10:00 am with live brass band music performed by the Novi Brass. Summer foods and beverages will be available for purchase while enjoying these other great activities:

The Festival will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 between 10 am and 3 pm at the Goose Meadow Picnic site and ball field. Follow signs in the park to the Festival on the day of the event. The Haven Hill section of the park can be entered at 5200 Highland Road (M-59) between Duck Lake and Bogie Lake roads. The Festival is provided to the public at no charge, while entry into Highland State Recreation Area is now via the Recreation Passport on your license plate. Day passes are available for a nominal charge at the front gate if you do not have a Recreation Passport. Food and beverage sales serve as a fundraiser for the Friends of Highland Recreation Area volunteer organization. These funds will be directed towards the general operations of FOHRA and their continuing efforts to revitalize the historic Edsel Ford Haven Hill estate structures within the park.

The Haven Hill Festival is an alcohol-free, family-oriented event now in its' 6th year at Highland State Recreation Area in Highland/White Lake, Michigan. The celebration continues to benefit the state park and the surrounding communities now and into the future.

Haven Hill Gate House Garage - New ADA Ramp Surface

We as members of the Friends of Highland Recreation Area are doing our best to make all areas as accessible to everyone as possible. In 2013 the Haven Hill Gate House at the front of the park received a new ADA access ramp. The ramp surface aged over the last year, and was replaced last weekend. Old Gate House ADA Ramp-7267

 

The new surface will last throughout inclement weather conditions.

Snow Snake Races Cancelled Due to Frigid Weather

The Snow Snake event at the Edsel Ford Barn in Highland State Recreation Area has been cancelled this weekend due to unsafe low temperatures and extreme wind chills. A new date of Sunday, February 9, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm has been scheduled.
